The Cintas Corporation was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1929 originally being named The Acme Industrial Laundry Company. Cintas leads the industry in supplying corporate identity uniform programs, providing entrance and logo mats, restroom supplies, promotional products, first aid, safety, fire protection products and services, and industrial carpet and tile cleaning. The Cintas Corporation currently operates more than 400 facilities in North America, which includes six manufacturing plants and eight distribution centers. Cintas has about 900,000 customers with about 5 million workers using Cintas uniforms everyday. According to an article “Misery of the maquiladoras” by Todd Chretien and Jessie Muldoon, Maria 's coworker Carmelina has a similar story to tell. "I 've worked for 35 years in different maquiladora plants--in textiles, electronics, chemicals," she says. "At Sunrise, we 're abused physically and emotionally, and we have no way to resist. Many people have lost fingers and hands in the cutting machines, but they just get fired. The bosses always blame accidents on the workers, and we never get any benefits or compensation”. This article described the working conditions of low-end product factories in Mexico where many unreasonable events happen all the time. To some extent, it would be difficult for Cintas to sell uniform to this type of factories who do not put their workers’ safety and treatment as their priority, and it is almost impossible to change the culture in a short period of time. However, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, Cintas can target those huge companies like Toyota, Ford, Mazda and VW since they pay close attention to their workers’ working conditions and safety, and will do their best to secure their brand image wherever they are (see figure XX in appendix). According to our interviewee Professor Mona Makhija who teaches international business at the Ohio State University, she mentioned that the factories she visited in Mexico were wearing uniforms. On the other side, Cintas can also try to promote their uniform service to those medium-size plants or factories who actually want to improve and change the working conditions for their employees, starting to build their morale from an uniform may be a good start for them.
