Cinesite’s VFX Supervisor Aymeric Perceval has been individually nominated for the Emmy alongside Visual effects designer Kevin Tod Haug and visual effects supervisor David Stump. He has nothing but praise for the crew who pushed the limits of their art. “We’re thrilled to be nominated for an Emmy this year. Cinesite completed over 160 digital effects shots across 18 different sequences split over 5 episodes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8. The work was done over a twelve-month period. Created by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green the American Gods is based on Neil Gaiman’s much-loved 2001 novel, which tells the story of a modern world on the verge of a clash between deities old and new.
Much of the work on the pilot episode involved the CG prison supercell environment and weather FX. The storm was an essential element of the first season of American Gods and was treated like a main character who follows Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon on their road trip. Cinesite became involved in the storms creation early on, pitching mood boards, concepts and even a 2D proof of concept with rain, blowing grass and a supercell with its different recognisable layers and rotating elements, all based on a still photograph director David Slade had given the team. Once the storm asset was complete it allowed the artists to deliver multiple CG shots across the series.
The 69th Emmy Awards will be presented on Saturday evening, July 22, 2017 at the Television Academy's Saban Media
