To begin Tim Burton uses the close up camera extremely well, an example of this is in Corpse Bride when Victor and Victoria meet for the first time. The close up on both characters who are forcefully married show the audience the true connection they share despite the circumstances. This also foreshadows a real relationship progressing. Though it is common, love is not the only emotion displayed with close up shots. Burton zooms into Emily’s face as she sees Victor and Victoria together to show the audience the hatred. In another film of Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when Willy Wonka is asked about his father there is a close up on him to show the pain it brings to Mr.Wonka to talk about such a personal matter, thus immediately telling that he suffers from and emotional problem with his past and family.

In this film Burton presents a perfect town with bright colors and sunny sky’s presenting a colorful and kind setting. Then contracts with an isolated castle shown in the distance that is covered in darkness. With just one shot this creates a separation from the rest of the town. This technique is used in many other films, in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory he uses a dark grey gloomy town, while Willy Wonka’s Factory is unveiled to be an array of color and creativity.
