After buying a toy for her son, she has for a moment found some form of consolance, knowing that she has at least brought back a gift to her son. As she returns to her house, it is revealed that the pimp has been waiting for her arrival. The following exchange between them is given with shots of her from over his shoulder and shots of him from lower the ground. This cinematic effect is to bring attention to his great size and power and her small frame in the face of social oppressions. She even grabs his shirt and shakes it but to little effect.
In addition, this cinematic effect of looking-up at the pimp is used again in another scene where the pimp finds out about her secret hiding place for her money she has been saving for her son. After
