“If you keep on believing, the dreams that you wish will come true,” this portrays one of the central themes in the Disney movie Cinderella. Cinderella gives a ‘happy ending’ with a man like in most disney movies. However, the Disney movie Frozen broke the chain of needing a man for a happily ever after. Frozen is not your typical boy meets girl and they fall in love scenario, essentially a more realistic theme than Cinderella. Disney further separates itself from the stereotypes by completely eradicating the notion that it is perfectly sane to marry someone after just meeting.…

To be a child in America essentially means that you are learning from your surroundings, therefore the general and popular modern day advertising, culture, and lessons are what a child is going to be seeing and hearing growing up. A child’s experience can be extremely different from another child’s experience, depending on gender, race, religion, and class. In the article from “A fabulous Child’s Story," it explains how there was a baby being raised with the gender unknown by the parents. Some might think that it was an impossible task, for example, in the story it states how family members and friends wanted to, or already had bought gifts for baby X, yet the parents would not tell them “what is was," in consequence, baby X barley got attention…

Responding to the Critic’s idea: Young girls tend to imagine and dream of being whisked away by a charming and wealthy prince because of fairytales like Cinderella that show and encourage it. I agree with Jack Zipes’ analysis on the decisions that women in fairy tales make. This supports the fairytale Cinderella and the decision that Cinderella made. Jack Zipes says that “comic endings call upon young females to value communal stability over individual needs.” meaning that the women in fairy tales made the decision to chose communal stability which is marrying a wealthy and handsome prince instead of individual needs, which is being an independent woman who looks after herself, provides her herself and creates her own wealth instead of…

How much of what we do influences children at a young age? Things that we do that influence children, such as giving them toys and clothes based on their gender. Toys and clothes could be considered more purposeful way to engender children, but sometimes there are actions that parents do without even knowing towards their children. Without the parents knowing they are setting gender norms for their children and this would possibly affect them in the future. In the readings of “From Women, Men, and Society” by Claire Renzetti and Daniel Curran and the reading “What’s Wrong with Cinderella” by Peggy Orenstein, the authors write about how parents and society form children in stereotypical ways and how it creates gender norms.…

Perrault version of Cinderella Vs the Grimm brothers’ version of Cinderella. “Fairy tale” is the term also used to describe something containing unusual happiness, like “fairy tale ending” a happing ending, or “fairy tale romance”, though not all fairy tales have a happy ending. According to Arthur Schlesinger, classical tales “tell children what they unconsciously know-that human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is, happy-and thereby reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self” (229). Despite the fact that both Perrault and the Grimm brothers versions of Cinderella are fundamentally similar to each other, but the differences between them show two different moral universes.…
