Braddock, better known as Cinderella Man. Cinderella Man, the movie is a true story about a boxer in the 1920’s named James Braddock (Jimmy). Life was great, he was a promising boxer. He was married to his wife Mae. They had a monogamy relationship, just for each other. They had what was considered to be a traditional vital marriage in a patriarchal family system. They cared deeply for each other no matter the situation they were going through. They were so poor their eldest child tried to steal and Jimmy took him to the store to give it back. He explained to him that no matter how bad their economic situation they should never take what does not belong to them. He then promised the child they would always be together. This demonstrates social learning theory by teaching the children morals and to work hard to get what you need in life. The electricity bill got so behind they cut it off and one of the children got very ill. Jimmy one night gave his daughter his bologna because she was still hungry and this showed us an example of self-sacrifice that he did for his family. He then signed up for public assistance and begged old colleagues for money to pay his bills and get his children back. That must have taken so much courage. In the family development theory it shows how a family changes through time. The Braddock’s went from well off to extremely poor to well off again. According to the family life cycle they would be at stage 4 because their eldest child is around the age of 6-13 years old. The children are going through different developmental tasks as they evolve through the phases of family
