Cigarettes Should Be Made Illegal In The US

Since I was born, my mother and grandmother have smoked, and my granddad has used chewing tobacco. When I was younger the only thing I ever noticed was the smell of the smoke or the look of my granddad’s spit, but I never thought anything of it. Later on, my school would start the D.A.R.E. program, and I started to learn more about what smoking and chewing tobacco does to harm our bodies and those around us. Ever since then I have hated the idea of using tobacco. Even though it may seem like a big challenge, tobacco should be made illegal in the United States because it is addictive and extremely deadly. In today's society, 71% of people that use drugs use tobacco. People I have met always tell me that they use tobacco because “it relieves stress,” or say “it's not bad for you.” However, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services says otherwise. They have found that 16 million people in the U.S. already have a(one of many) diseases caused by tobacco and another 8.6 million have a severe disease caused by smoking. According to the website cancer.org, secondhand smoke can also cause cancer. For children, secondhand smoke can lead to getting sick more often, lung infections, and ear infections. Third hand smoking is even worse, which is when smoke particles from smoking settle in the dust and form cancer causing compounds. If these harmful carcinogens can give small animals thrombosis it could do the same to yourself and those around
