Smoking causes millions of deaths each year worldwide. It causes more deaths than the combination of alcohol, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs (“What is Secondhand Smoke”). Although most deaths occur from actually being a smoker, a few thousand are innocent people who have lost their lives because of someone else’s choice. It is proven that people that spend thirty minutes daily around cigarette smoking are more likely to suffer a fatal heart attack. Heart disease and lung cancer are common diseases linked to second hand smoking and are responsible for a staggering amount of fatalities. People claim the campaign against smoking uses unreliable science (Martin). Studies found that health communities use places in their studies that would not be affected by bans. They do not focus on places that would suffer the most such as small town diners, local bars, or clubs (Hitt). A huge argument is that if smoking was a good business decision that they would ban it themselves without it being required by law.
