Churchill had joined the fourth Hussars in 1895 and served in the indian Northwest frontier and the sudan where he saw action in the battle of Durham in 1898. He was also one of the first to promote military aircraft and set up the royal navy air service.He rejoined the British Army for a brief period of time.On September 3, 1939 churchill was appointed first lord of the Admiralty and a member of the war cabinet and in the April of 1940 he became chairman of the military coordinating committee. He led Britain’s fight against the Nazi Germany.
