Church Leaders

It makes sense that a church should have leadership. People need structure. Schools have leaders, businesses have leaders, and nations have leaders. Every organized gathering of people has leaders. Choosing who you leaders are is very important because that will affect your organization. The agency and responsibilities of your leaders will affect how they interact with your organization. What about choosing leaders to lead the church? Are the rules any different when selecting church leaders than they are for other organizations? What are the leaders in the church supposed to do? How do the leaders move the people in the church? What responsibilities do church leaders have towards the congregation? What responsibilities does the congregation have towards church leaders? We will look to Anyabwile, Rinne, and the faithful elders of Hinson Baptist Church to find these answers. After reading Leeman and Rinne, and attending the Elders meeting, I have a much greater reverence, warmness, and desire towards elders. God is so good to outline church leadership for us in this way. Elders are an office given by God. Elders are a blessing to the local church. An elder is defined by what he does and what he says. And elder is a member of the church. An elder submits himself to the Word of God (that is, the teaching of the church). An elder gathers with the flock regularly to worship YHWH and take communion with one another.
