Overall, the outcome of the Porter’s 5- forces approach to analyzing a company would be to determine the profit potential of the company in the industry that the company is in. To determine the profitability of Church & Dwight, the author must first establish what type of industry the company is in. Church & Dwight are considered to be a domestic household and personal care product line. However, Church & Dwight faced a challenge in the beginning of the 2000’s. Church & Dwight realized they were a lot smaller than the competitors in the domestic household and personal care products industry. The company gives plenty of examples situations they take very seriously, such as: environmental awareness and environmental cleanliness; however, the company does not have a blanket set of belief, values, and expectations that are accepted by all board of directors and employees. Church & Dwight believe in the consumer and they believe in the consumer spending money to buy the products that they produce. Because Church & Dwight does not have a clear cut mission statement, it deems very difficult to find the core beliefs and values of the company. According to the 2012 sustainability reports, Church & Dwight says “Innovation. Discovering what’s possible. Delivering what’s desirable. Minimizing the impact” (Sustainability report, 2012, pg.1).
