Chuck close was born July 5, 1940. Chucky Closes parents; Leslie Close and Mildred Close, had no idea that he had these learning disabilities. Chuck enjoyed painting because it helped him cope with his life and what people thought about him. Chuck had face blindness, he had dyslexia, and he was paralyzed and not be able to walk or even use his arms that much anymore. When Chuck was just a boy, he had dyslexia which is where you mix letters and words up and it’s hard stuff to conquer and at the time no one knew there was such thing as dyslexia so everyone called him stupid and lazy, even his teachers. This only made Chuck work harder because in art world, words never mattered and nothing mattered besides the art. So, what he did was art, that’s all he was able to do and that made him feel special and that made up for people telling him he couldn’t do anything and he wouldn’t achieve greatness. Chuck Close would use realism within his art, which meant that it was emotional and the painting had feelings and definition to it. When Chuck did his portraits he would always used the Grid Method which was going box by box and he wouldn’t even look at this huge 9 foot portrait until he was done. The value was probably the most important part of his paintings because that’s where most things started out. Then shading began and this was key to his portraits because this is where all the details of his painting came out and into the picture. He would draw portraits of people only and they couldn’t have any makeup on and they couldn’t have their hair done by a professional, no he just wanted the natural person inside and out and he thought that was beautiful and that gave a lot of
