Chu Ju and Koly Compare/Contrast
“Life takes you to unexpected places. Love brings you home.”, said Melissa McClone, best selling author. In the books Chu Ju’s and Homeless Bird by Gloria Whelan, there are two girls who are constantly going from place to place trying to find a home. In the book Chu Ju’s house the main character is Chu Ju and she leaves her family because in China they have to pay a fine for having more than two children and since a boy is considered good fortune and wealth her family decided to sell their baby girl to an orphanage so that they could have a boy, but Chu Ju loved her little sister so she left her home and started her journey. She left her family and her sister Hua so that her parents and grandmother would not sell Hua. “‘Chu Ju how you must have loved your sister but what might have happened to you could have been worse than what might have happened to your sister’”(179). Chu Ju was very risk taking because things much worse could have happened to her like getting kidnapped by evil men who look for little girls. As you saw in the summary her journey had all started from her wanting to make sure that her sister Hua stayed safe. She had lots of love in her heart and made her very risky journey all over and finally found a home.
Koly on the other hand is very skillful and is a quick learner.”If I[Koly] tried to hurry, the flowers dropped of their fiber, but the work was easy and I soon caught on”(125). Koly was also a great quilter and very skilled in that art form. Koly was able to very quickly adapt to her life in the big city. It was very different from living in a small village. Koly also found a boy named Raji who had proposed to her and she answered that she wasn't ready to say yes but it wasn’t a no.
