Just like physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In relation, every action has a positive or negative outcome. Most actions have consequences that are never thought about in the moment always an afterthought. Angela Vicario was the only daughter that was unmarried in her family, everyone in town didn’t suspect anything less than a pure young lady. She was always watched over like a hawk and never left the house alone. Angela Vicario was trapped in lie, which was started by uttering the name Santiago Nazar. After learning that Angela lied to her family about losing her virginity before marriage, she was punished by almost being beaten to death. Angela’s brothers were angry that she wouldn’t tell them who did it at first. In Columbia purity is a sacred thing, usually saved for marriage. Angela’s lying brought dishonor to the Vicario family, therefore her brothers tried to restore the missing honor it was their duty. “Before god and before men, Pablo said it was a matter of honor” (Márquez 49). Killing a man named Santiago Nazar was thought to restore the honor to her as well as the Vicario name. The idea Pablo had, wasn’t an honor killing at all because Angela had lied about who actually took her virginity. Nobody in the town actually thought the twins would kill Santiago Nazar. It’s made clear by some townspeople that the brothers didn’t actually want to go through with the killing. “Those poor boys won’t kill anyone” (Márquez 105).
