Stress, a natural occurring phenomenon, is a state of strain both physically and mentally. It is the very motivation humans need to keep that excitement we grasp for everyday. However, in a fast paced society, the act of straying away from the average routine using this so called stress has ironically become the average routine for most. Granted, stress has its benefits, but continuous stress at a daily basis is injurious to one’s health. Namely, Chronic stress has affected the very core of the future leaders of tomorrow, school in particular.Thus, expectations of the environment, competition affect, and facing reality and truth of the pressure surrounding society must be understood as the causes of stress in the education system to move forward …show more content…
Naturally over the years, students come to understand that with every choice comes a consequence and that there will always be an upside or a downside. According to an anonymous online survey from the medical daily, 49 percent of all students said that they were dealing with stress daily despite their academic success(Medical Daily, 2015). Instead, they were understanding that there will not be people to lead or teach them in the future. Students will be the leaders themselves and for some, that fact has not reached their head. Moreover, one of the leading cause of chronic stress is the realization over time of how intense societal pressures the individual. Society has an image for each and everyone of how they must behave, what ideas they should convey and what we wear and everything we do. No one is free of the chains of society and it really is a shame that there is no such thing as self esteem or true individuality. And when students realize that fact, they accept it like nothing instead of questioning or rebelling against it. They are constantly following trends and growing gray hair over trying to chase the fake image society puts upon them. Eventually, this search for a needle in a haystack produces enough chronic stress to solve world hunger. Likewise, the harsh truth of society also brings upon another side of stress for adolescents in the education system. Concerning this, Scheff who is a university professor in sociology explains “The hiding of emotion is more widespread in modern societies… shame is a very useful emotion and yet one cannot see that it is the basis of morality” (Scheff, 2014). In short, Scheff points out that people face an internal conflict of hiding who they are and some may not even be aware that they are stressed over expressing who they are.
