Chronic Pruritus Research Paper

Chronic pruritus is a very irritating itch that usually stays for months at a time. It can be found in men or women and anywhere on the skin. However, if it affects a specific region of the skin, it is known as localized pruritus. If the itch affects the whole body of skin, then it is commonly known as generalized pruritus. This condition has been said to be just as severe as chronic pain and could damage how well you function in your day to day life. Chronic pruritus relates to many other common skin disorders but definitely differs in it’s own unique way. The causes of chronic pruritus can be so broad that it is categorized into four different groups. The itch starts in the skin and triggers certain fibers that send the itch to the brain. Sometimes these fibers over exaggerate the itch which causes the the affected site to itch more than it truly does. This is why many people have said a simple touch of the area affected or even clothes grazing the site triggers a constant itch.
As said before, chronic pruritus is very similar to many other skin conditions. In order to correctly diagnose chronic pruritus you must undergo a series of tests and evaluations. It is best that you consider your medical and drug history and regularly see your doctor to examine the skin affected by chronic pruritus. The skin should be checked for any symptoms of other skin conditions that differ for the signs of chronic pruritus. Everyone’s skin is different and may react differently to other skin conditions.
