Chronic periodontitis is a complex disease caused by microorganism. recent studies showed the effect of periodontal diseases on the systemic health conditions like cardiovascular disease (CVD). C reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant which used as marker for monitoring of periodontal diseases and systemic health problems. Body mass index (BMI) on the other hand has a relationship with the level of CRP and severity of periodontal diseases as well as systemic health.
1.1. INTRODUCTION Periodontitis is the disease of the teeth supporting tissues caused mainly by gram negative microorganisms.(1) it result from an interaction between host and microorganisms and modified by various mediators such as environmental and systemic factors(2), genetic predisposition and nutrition. Periodontitis on the other hand may be a risk factor for systemic health and participate in the pathogenesis of many diseases such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and CVD. The way by which periodontitis affect systemic health or health conditions affect periodontitis is through releases of inflammatory cytokines.
