Chromebook Flaws

Boom, crack, pop, and “Did it break?” are common sounds and words heard when handling Chromebooks. Schools should not have Chromebooks for numerous reasons. Chromebooks have many physical flaws, help get children in trouble, cost an abundance of money, and are less organized than paper pencil work and books or textbooks.

Many of the students at my school have problems with the physical flaws of their Chromebooks. The first flaw of the Chromebook is the screen. The screen cracks very easily and one of the numerous ways that this can occur is by having one of the side pieces pop off the screen of a Chromebook. Teachers have to constantly stop lessons over and over again to tell the students to shut their Chromebooks and pay attention. A few ways that Chromebooks can get children in trouble is by their teachers checking Hapara while they are playing games or chatting on Google documents. The final way that a Chromebook can get children in trouble during school is by blasting loud music or having their earbuds in to listen to music while their teacher is teaching. Outside of school children “forget” to do their homework on the Chromebook because they would rather play games. Children also get in huge trouble by looking at inappropriate pictures online or by cheating on homework, quizzes, or even a test! A child’s Chromebook braking could result in bad grades as well because children can’t do the independent class work, they won’t have what they need to study, and there is a very long wait list for Chromebooks, especially around the holidays, which could result in having to share a Chromebook with someone
