Christopher Phillips is an intriguing person who has a mission for life. The National Public Radio named him the “Johnny Appleseed of Philosophy”. He travels around the world hosting conversations in coffee houses, senior centers, elementary schools and universities. His main goal is to bring forth conversations about questions that are important to the people. His book: Socrates Café: A Fresh Taste of Philosophy showcases how he begin the Socrates Café conversations and provides us with recap story of the many conversations he’s participated in. Socrates Café is a collection of gatherings that take place around the world, that gives people of various backgrounds time to exchange ideas and experiences with others while also embracing the theme of Socratizing: the idea that we learn more through asking questions. One would think that this would be an odd mix of people due to the group being made of people who have different social status as well as jobs. Oddly enough, a wide range of people such as the one listed above, brings about topics of discussions that cause great debate and uproar, but also gives each participant the chance to see things from a different viewpoint.
