The trend of surprises didn't stop on his birthday, though, the first coming in the form of a note from his kindergarten report card, which plainly stated the words: “brilliant but difficult. disruptive in class.” His mother and father were stunned to find that their bright and brilliant son was failing to thrive in a structured environment. Nevertheless, he insisted on his son coming to college in DC, mentioning he could get Kit into GWU despite his GPA, even threatening to cut him off from financial help if he didn't attend for at least two years. It was this, ultimately, that forced kit into the University, as he was terrified of the idea of being homeless or barely getting by on his own. To add insult to injury, his dad even attempted to guilt Kit into pursuing law or political science as a major. Kit, as a bit of a protest to his father, spent his first year without a major, eventually settling on journalism, as he saw it as the closest thing to a creative outlet he could get away with.
Ironically, his venture towards a journalism degree lead him to an internship at a company that ran a lighthearted Internet news website, focusing on liberal politics.
