This was very fascinating as experts across different fields try to piece together and prove that indeed humans were indeed born to run. Christopher McDougall used many resources to prove this such as doing lap tests at Harvard that recorded through a video the impact of his feet barefooted and with different types of shoes. One of the key points of the book is that ultra-marathon running is best done barefooted. Born to run also sets out to prove that running shoes will not only not improve your running time, but will also lead to more injury since they promote poor running techniques and for a number of reasons. This is something that ultra-runners are not aware of because of all the cushioning running shoes provide as well as the incline your foot rests on in most running shoes. For example the average running shoe your foot sits on an incline of 10-13 millimeters. This in itself could be the sole reason for running injuries as your foot in place in a shoe in an unnatural position, a little exaggerate but the same concept think of the foot in a high heel this is how the foot is in the average running shoes just not that much of an incline. If an ultra-runner has poor running techniques running barefooted, they will correct themselves naturally as the idea behind this is that they will be in pain if they don’t, and as a result the chance of getting injured will be greatly
