Life on the road is not for everybody which in theory is understandable because traveling can be unpredictable. People who do not like to travel have their reasons; some people may say that they dislike traveling because they find it to be boring, while others will say that traveling causes them to stress due to fear of the unknown and therefore would rather avoid unnecessary worries and fears. There is also many thrill-seeking people who find that traveling the open-road is adventurous and that it gives them a sense of freedom because they are not tied down to any one specific area. Upon growing up, McCandless discovered that his father had a secret life outside of him and his mother; this secret life inferiated McCandless and over time his resentment grew deeper and deeper ultimately causing McCandless to shut down and take to the road. Supertramp also had an ego and sometimes he it override rationality; he was the type of person who would not take anything from anyone even if the person insisted. After graduation McCandless decides that he will travel the summer away. When he left home to embark upon his travels, he left with a couple of changes of clothes and a small caliber knife. His friends attempted to let him barrow things so he would be better prepared but were quickly shut down. A clear insight into how big his ego actually was when he decided not to return home after the flood forced him to abandon his Datsun. Instead, he decided that he would backpack and hitchhike everywhere. Supertramp traveled from one coast of the United States to the other. It was evident that Supertramp was a thrill-seeker when he decided to canoe the Colorado River down to Mexico. Throughout his conoeing adventure he battled some very brutal waters and encountered some dangerous waterfalls and storms that some people would not survive. After re-entering the United States, Supertramp picked up odd mindless jobs like McDonalds and Wayne Westerberg's grain elevator to make a little money to use to purchase survival necessities for his travels. Along his journeys, he met new people yet never introduced himself by his real name because he did not want people to know his true identity. In April of 1992, Supertramp makes it to Alaska where he is forced to read up on plants and berries in efforts to take advantage of his surroundings. Some of Supertramps adventures in Alaska led him to places such as Mt. Mckinley and the Stampede
