The inclination that McCandless had to abandon his ordinary lifestyle is truly ambitious. There is nothing wrong with McCandless wanting to search for the meaning of life in a way that did not uphold to his family’s supposition. McCandless is a hero, a utopian whose self-determination inspires others to reach for their dreams and also acquire ambitions just as he did. He went through a tremendous growth within himself and he simply tried to understand the world around him: “So you see-- heroes come in all shapes and sizes. A hero can be someone who runs into a burning building and saves another’s life--or an ordinary person who simply says, What can I do to help?” (Kokendoffer 1) Neither of these example truly describe McCandless, but the point is that a hero is not necessarily the superman stereotype that society believes one should live up to. His death was more valuable than a lot of people's lives because he lived his life sincerely present, honestly at one with himself and his ambitions and the world around him, with total independence, instead of being judged by modern day society. He was courageous because he lived his life the way he wanted to and he did not care the slightest bit about what anyone else thought of him. He was fully aware of the possible alternatives such as injuring himself or even death but he did not care because he was doing what he wanted to do! Despite everything that McCandless lived for, he soon realized
