Christopher Columbus was the eldest of the five children that Susanna Fontanarossa and Domenico Colombo had. Columbus was born into a middle class, Christian household. Domenico Colombo, Columbus's father was a Genoese wool worker and a merchant which is where Columbus's career as seaman began, as a merchant marine. Columbus married Felipa Perestrello e Moniz and they had a son named Diego who was born in 1480. After Christopher Columbus's first wife died he remarried Beatriz Enríquez de Harana of Córdoba who he had his second son with, Ferdinand (Britannica School). During Columbus's lifetime, He made four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean that credited him for opening the Americas to European settlement (biography.com). But a Renaissance Idol must display being a persevering, and courageous person and these characteristics describe Christopher Columbus perfectly. When Columbus went to propose the king about queen of Portugal about his voyage they did not approve, and it took Columbus seven years of persisting, until winning the queen's approval (Gale Virtual Reference Library). In view of the fact that Columbus waited seven years for an approval to fulfill his voyage shows that he was a persevering person. When Columbus took his voyage across the Atlantic, he knew what he was getting himself into. He had bee told several times that it was a dangerous task and Columbus knew that it never has been
done before but he still sailed. Also, his first voyage almost had him killed but he still sailed three more times (SOURCE). Seeing that Christopher Columbus risked his life more than once and was brave enough to go on a voyage that no other man was brave enough to fulfill it shows that he was a courageous man.
