Christopher Columbus is a key historical figure in U.S. History and also world history today. His explorations throughout his life and his most famous lead to many inventions and new ways of life. We have named Columbus one of the greatest explorers of all time, not to mention one of the most famous as well. His life was anything but ordinary, even in his early childhood. His contributions to society were revolutionary and his ideas were new. He was a smart but also lucky man for his time. Christopher Columbus was born just outside the city of Genoa, Italy in August 1451. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister. His parents, Domenico and Susanna were weavers in a cloth store. It was Christopher’s job along with his siblings to help out in the store a much as possible. On their off time the children went to a miniature school in an alley way made by the weavers in that area. The boys learned just enough Latin to get by in church and with prayers. Their sister was not aloud to go to school. At the time it was not proper for girls and women to be educated; they were to learn how to tend to the house and the family. In the leisure time, Christopher and a few of his brothers enjoyed taking their little boat out to the …show more content…
During that time, ship logs were just becoming popular among seamen and explorers. Unfortunately to researcher’s knowledge, the logs were just to keep track of ship speed and wind directions for the most part. Uniquely, Columbus had done that and so much more in his ship logs. Not only did he calculate the wind directions and such but he also wrote about life on the boat. He wrote about his crew and the adventure as it came about. Without these ship logs, we would not have known a great deal of Columbus’s life as it was spent mostly exploring. Luckily, for the modern world we do have these logs, but we were close to never getting
