With that in mind, I believe Cristopher Columbus had a great need for a GPS because he was trying to get to Asia and ended up in the Americas, which would never have happened if he knew the distance, his location and the exact direction to go. During his expedition, he was unaware of America’s existence which is something he would have known to expect and prepare for if he had a GPS to guide him to his destination. A GPS would have also told him the estimated time and distance until arrival so he would know when he was in Asia and not America.
