This was in the Age of Exploration, in which countries (primarily Spain and Portugal) were fighting to explore everything in the world possible. During this line, there was a line of demarcation to define exactly where each country could and could not explore. An example of this would be the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship, which can complete a transatlantic cruise in seven days. Speaking of extra supplies, these supplies could have been given to all of extra passengers the cruise ship allowed. As an economy booster for Spain, residents of the country could have placed bids on spots on the once of a lifetime voyage with Christopher Columbus himself. They could also help him explore which would be a two in one benefit for Spain. One thing Columbus is known for is having large scale conflicts with Native Americans. Many think that some other person would find America if Columbus had not, but that is not necessarily true. Still, even if they had, they might not have written down what routes they had taken during their trip to America. Christopher Columbus was smart enough to realize that marking his path would help a lot of others find their way, even if he did not know that he was in America. The Chapter is named Forget Columbus, the author elaborates by saying his wife told him not to start the book with Columbus but this becomes relevant when he continues to say that everyone believes they know what Columbus did and they revere him for his deeds when no one actually knows him or was able to witness the explorer’s deeds first hand. This is much like the history of conflicts between the United States and Native Americans. Kings then lists famous battles, massacres, and war heroes…

Thesis: Christopher Columbus was a man responsible for the decimation of three major civilizations, as well as the ultimate genocide of the indigenous peoples as a whole, one of the largest in human history. Columbus alone committed an array of horrific acts, using the Indians as sex slaves and extorting them for labor, stealing their land and goods, and hunting them for sport and dog food. His choices and treatment influenced how other would later view and deal with the Indians, eventually leading to their near extinction.
