Christopher Columbus Research Paper

In the United States many people celebrate a national holiday by the name of Columbus day. Christopher Columbus was the first European to step foot in America. Since he did this, in the 1930s it became a holiday in several countries. Numerous people think that Columbus doesn’t deserve this kind of honor, because of the fact that other people discovered America and the way he treated the Native Americans. Examples of this are from the article “Columbus Doesn’t Deserve a Holiday.” In this piece of writing they describe Columbus as evil and negative. Although, on the other hand, the article “Sail On” says he is brave and honored. There are a lot of similarities and differences that people think about Christopher Columbus, and their thoughts make a difference at the way that others look at him. …show more content…
For instance, the fact that Columbus sailed for Spain and ended up in America was introduced in both of the articles. From the point of view for the article “Sail On,” the author writes his piece in a positive way by adding things that make Christopher Columbus sound like he is an honorable man, that deserves the holiday. Another example of similarities found in these articles are that they both say that he created a holiday. Even though one of the articles talk about it in a more negative way they still basically explain the facts about Columbus’s holiday. A final reference for the similarities between the two pieces of writing is that Columbus changed the world.
