Columbus' main plan during his voyage season was to reach Asia in search of spices. They were in search of an efficient route to travel to Asia. Their whole motivation for leaving Europe was to come across the mainland of Asia by sailing west of Europe. Knowing that the massive continent of Africa was in the was if your head east, they decided to head west. This seemed like a good plan until they ended up coming across the Indies in the Carribean. Columbus did not expect to reach these many beautiful islands and he thought he was in Asia at first. He is different as compared to other explorers such as William Bradford because he was exploring for global recognition. Females would be more devoted to read it and the males would not. Even though this is true she has a great approach to this problem. She confronts the issue in her poetry and states how the problem can be fixed. She does not harp on the issue too extensively because she does get into more emotional topics. The subjects that are involved such as the burning down of her house is not always relatable, and I'm pretty sure her critics would agree. You need to be able to step into her shoes when she discusses the struggles that occur while thinking about the materials inside her house. Or how after the fire, she remembers where the objects were in her house and how they looked before the fire occurred. She really made me picture how it would feel when her table was just remaining and what she used do at the table such as laugh or discuss stories. If someone such as myself has not experienced this, then they will not respect her poetry as much as someone who has been through a similar occurrence. When she views poetry the way she does, her ability can have a significant incline because her words are authentic, but her number of readers can decline. Her attitude that is reflected in parts of her poetry can be viewed as strong or intense because she is defending her gender and the gap that they have in poetry. When Bradstreet focusses on life experiences, comparisons to male poets, or speaks on female critics, it can help her and others success in the literary

In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Christopher Columbus discovered the new world in his voyages, but by accident. The reason for Columbus’s voyage was to find an alternate trade route to the Spice Islands And at this time the passage required Spain to go through the Mediterranean Sea. The sea, however, was controlled by the Ottoman Empire and required a hefty toll. For this reason, Columbus did “not go eastward by land in the usual manner but by the western way” (Doc 1).…

In the end it was quite clear that Anne Bradstreet’s poem was a way to cope with her loss. I was not the common thing to express this in a male dominated society. To speak out and express your thoughts was dangerous in 1666, however she did so anyways. This poem showed her fear, the way she copes by reminiscing, and finally finding hope by connecting to her Puritan faith.…

When I was in elementary school, Christopher Columbus was taught to be an adventurous hero who found America. His idea for his pilgrimage was to find a trade route to Asia. He first asked the King John of Portugal and he was quickly denied. When Columbus went to Queen Isabella to ask, he demanded too much if he succeeded in the future and she denied him, until six years later. Columbus was not actually the one to discover America.…

Columbus was someone who used his imagination to try and find land that was not even what he thought it was. For example, while Columbus was on America, he thought it was East Asia and used inferences to make him believe that it was East Asia instead of America. This shows that Columbus was also human. It shows that Columbus also made mistakes like others. According to George Santayana, “Columbus found a world, and had no chart, Save one that faith deciphered in the skies.”…

Public opinion is, in many ways, like science. A scientist will hear about or notice something and form an opinion. Good scientists will then continue to look into it to prove or disprove their original opinion, while less determined scientists will stick with what they originally found. Public opinion follows a very similar path. From the early years of school, people are taught that Christopher Columbus is a hero to the people of America.…

Calling his discovery of America accidental is quite nice considering the circumstances he was in. Even though he had planned and brought three ships of supplies and men to cover the distance he thought it would be to reach Asia from Europe, he was wrongly mistaken. It was proven that if America had not existed and been in the way of his journey, Columbus would’ve had to turn back long before reaching his goal of Asia, or he and every man on his ships would have died a quiet death. With that in mind, it is acceptable to say that Christopher Columbus was “lucky” to have encountered America. It goes to show that Columbus may have rushed the voyage and did not fully plan out the proper resources needed for a successful trip.…

Thesis: Christopher Columbus was a man responsible for the decimation of three major civilizations, as well as the ultimate genocide of the indigenous peoples as a whole, one of the largest in human history. Columbus alone committed an array of horrific acts, using the Indians as sex slaves and extorting them for labor, stealing their land and goods, and hunting them for sport and dog food. His choices and treatment influenced how other would later view and deal with the Indians, eventually leading to their near extinction. Most of us know very little about the people who roamed our lands before we “discovered them”, and instead praise one man’s inaccurate claims. and that is why we should replace Columbus Day, which credits a man for deeds…
