Christopher Columbus wants to prove his new method of traveling to the India sailing west instead of traveling east. After many years of trying to persuade the Spanish nobility, Columbus’ attracts attention of the queen of Spain who decides to support Columbus on his voyage. After many weeks at sea, Columbus and his convoy finally make land in what is now modern-day San Salvador. They make contact with the native locals and Columbus was determined to keep relations between them peaceful. Columbus is called back to Spain and is once again set on another journey to the New World, only this time with the expectations of returning with gold. He is accompanied by nobles who become upset with Columbus when forced to work. A man named Moxoica, the …show more content…
They perform a ritual trying to preserve the cultural, but they get caught by a group of Spaniards trying to stop to the ritual. The Spaniards murder all of the remaining Indians which was their solution to ending the “Act of savagery” being performed. Topiltzin escapes with his life due to a Spanish Missionary named Friar Diego whom seemed to take an interest in the Aztec. He is then taken in front of Hernando Cortes where he meets his half-sister, Isabelle. She persuades Cortes to spare her brother’s life which he does, but he must be converted to their religion and learn the Spanish language. Cortes also changes his name from Tolpiltzin to Tomás. About five years later, Tomás can be found at Friar Diego’s monastery. Isabel visits Tomás and has him forage Cortes’ signature onto fake letters meant for the King of Spain. Friar Diego later catches them fornicating in secret which leads Isabel back to Cortes where she would later kill herself and her unborn child. Tomás becomes lost without his link to his old world and eventually he becomes crazy. He starts to hallucinate and believe that the Virgin Mary is his Mother Goddess. He becomes so obsessed with her that eventually he ends up killing himself due to the weight of the Virgin Mary Statue crushing him and causing him to bang his head on the

Cortes originally gave Malintzin to one of his captains, unknowing of her value to translate between the Spanish and indigenous people. Upon learning of her value, he then decided to take her back and keep her alongside him as his intermediary.
