Columbus started in Cadiz and went along the Indian Sea. While on Sea he discovered islands and communicated with people that didn’t speak his language. Columbus went to a few different islands but the first couple he gave the name of the blessed Saviour. When at sea he had taken a few Indians by force and tried to make them learn our language and communicate to Columbus and his people what they knew about respecting the country. Columbus stated that he will give the people on the islands as much gold as they need, a great quantity of spices, cotton, and mastic. He also promised rhubarb and many sorts of drugs. Pepper and other spices are imported into Italy and has been for more than a century. Since 1470 the Turks have been preventing and not letting the trade routes East of the Mediterranean Sea. After this happened explorers all sailed West to get the spices and products they needed, and the Americas were a secondary to get spices. This shows that the Europeans had to get spices, and sail to get them to import them back to where they are needed.
John Cabot wanted to find, discover and investigate land that they found. At this time all land was unknown to Christians. Whatever towns, castles, islands or cities discovered by them was possessed by them and was taken over. To possess they had to pay with money or goods. Which means for them to transport the good they had to sail to take them to where they needed to go.
