The question is Christopher Columbus being a hero or villain? I would have to say he was both. According to research he was not the first to discover Americas and his journeys took him more towards the Caribbean, Central and South America. He was a hero in the sense that he discovered new lands that help promote trade across the oceans. He paved the way for settlers from Europe to venture to America to start new lives. In America he is seen by Congress as someone who “commemorating his voyage to the New World, the nation would be honoring the courage and determination which enabled generation after generation of immigrants from many nations to find freedom and opportunity in America"(Sanders, 2012).
