The Italian navigator, explorer and colonizer Christopher Colombus (also known as Cristoforo Colombo or Cristobal Cólon) was born at Genoa, Italy, circa 1451. Under the patronage of the Catholic Monarch of Spain, he commanded four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean, and participated to several other expeditions to Africa. His navigator career started when he was a teenager, he traveled by the Mediterranean and Aegean to trade.
