In the novel “The curious incident of the dog in the night-time” the author Mark Haddon creates the main character, Christopher Boone as a flat character unlike his father, Ed Boone who is a round character. When first being introduced to Christopher’s character, it is noticeable that he is a very stereotypical against humans yet more sympathetic to animals, as it says:
“I cared about dogs because they were faithful and honest, and some dogs were cleverer and more interesting than some people.” (Haddon, pg. 6) and “I like dogs. You always know what a dog is thinking. It has four moods. Happy, sad, cross and concentrating. Also, dogs are faithful and they do not tell lies because they cannot talk.” (Haddon, pg. 3-4)

But instead, he did not develop as much which makes him mostly a static character. Christopher’s internal development is restricted and does not grow for the simple reason that he is unable to express his emotions when they grow too strong. When he found out that his mother had an affair with Mr. Shears, he did not get upset or sad because he knew his mother was dead.
“I don’t feel sad about it. Because Mother is dead. And because Mr. Shears isn’t around anymore. So I would be feeling sad about something that isn't real and doesn't exist. And that would be stupid.” (Haddon, pg. 75)
Later on in the novel, Christopher finds out that in his father’s room, he had a cupboard with envelopes written to him from his mother. Curiously, he decides to open few envelopes as he discovers that his mother is still alive after two years knowing she was dead. Only then he becomes slightly more dynamic and emotional:
“Then I stopped reading the letter because I felt sick. Mother had not had a heart attack. Mother had not died. Mother had been alive all the time. And father had lied about this…And I couldn’t think of anything at all because my brain wasn't working properly.” (Haddon, pg.
