One of the big events in Christopher’s life was the murder of Wellington, his neighbor’s poodle. At the crime scene, he got into a misunderstanding with the police and hit an officer. He got released with a caution, and promised his father that he wouldn’t look into the incident any further. While Christopher was searching for the book, he found letters from his mother, who he thought was dead. The letters told the life of his mother in London with Mr. Shears, the man she was in affair with. Later, Father came home and tried to explain that he tried to protect Christopher from the fact that his mother had abandoned the family. Also, he admitted that he was the one who killed Wellington after an argument with Mrs. Shears. Christopher thought that he could no longer trust his father, so went to London to meet his mother. His mother was surprised that Christopher was in London, but soon decided to leave Mr. Shears and London, to return to Swindon. In school, he received an A on the A-level math test. He planned to study further in math and physics, and go to university in another
