Christopher and Oskar both show the fact that they didn't stop doing what they wanted to achieve when they both had difficult situations in their life. This has shown that disabilities can be gifts and lead you somewhere which could benefit you.

Chris has gone into his father's room and he opened the shirt box and he had seen there were letters for him from his mother addressing the affair she and Mr.Shears had. His father has come up and started to curse at Chris saying “what the hell are you doing” and his father has said sorry to Christopher about the letters. Chris’s father was always trying to hide those letters because he had told Chris that his mother died, but he didn't want to break chris’s heart so he hid the letters directed for him and lied about his mother for a tremendous amount of time. After a few days when that happened his father finally thought it was a good time to tell Chris what happened to wellington, he had said to Chris “I killed Wellington” Chris didn't believe it at first but his father just hated to break the truth to him. Christopher after hearing this it heartbroke him and he started to think, he needs to leave his father he didn't want to live with his father because he had killed Wellington he thought that he would kill him.
