Christopher: An Unreliable Narrator

Improved Essays
This is another way to prove that Christopher will be a reliable narrator. His unique way of thinking is a key characteristic to his personality. The images he narrates show clarity and we are swept into his world and are able to easily see the story from his point of view. It also shows the world from a fresh, clear angle.

In the first sentence, Christopher’s father claims that the lie was intentional and only meant to protect his son. However, in the third sentence, he claims the lie was unintentional; he did not mean to lie. This just shows the horrible nature of lying; once you start, it’s incredibly difficult to stop. His father is extremely distraught and conflicted about how he began telling this awful lie in the first place.

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

He says he was “out”, which is the truth, however he does not tell the whole truth about where exactly he had been. This reveals how Christopher rationalizes what lying is, and it sets the standard of what is a lie and what is the truth in the book. Christopher believes this type of lying is justifiable, because everyone omits the truth. He believes that everyone does not tell the whole truth and he considers this as not lying. This conflicts with what a lie is.…

One key element to any story is the point of view in which the author uses to voice their work. As characters, setting, and plot are introduced, readers are often unknowingly influenced by the narrator 's viewpoint written by the author. This power of point of view allows the author to control exactly how much information is given to the audience by limiting or providing boundless knowledge to the speaker. This element can be expanded upon by an author providing multiple narrators with different viewpoints which could result in a work with various dialects, perspectives, and biases. While many authors use an all-knowing narrator, a story written may take on another meaningful connotation if told by a character with limited knowledge like that…

The short story “Cathedral” by Raymond Carver is told from the point-of-view of the narrator. Speaking in first person, the narrator describes a particular night in which he meets Robert, a blind friend of the narrator’s wife. Because the story is written in the first person, the reader is able to see what the narrator is thinking as well as speaking. The third lie is the Out-and-Out Lie, which telling something that everyone knows is a lie. As the screenwriter Ericsson puts it, “At least when this sort of lie is told it can be easy to confronted”(479). The essence of her argument is that it is easy for the liars to argue with the person who is being lied to because those liars are already have the prove before they try to act like they do not know anything. I had used this type of lie many times when I was a high school student. For example, my friend once borrowed my pen during math period, and he putted it in his backpack after he had done with his work.…

Throughout the story, the narrator clearly proclaims that he has lived in the castle for all of his life and does not remember anything else before that. The author even says, “I must have lived years in this place, but I cannot measure the time.” Then shortly after states, “I felt conscience of my youth because I remember so little.”…

I’ve always had the impression that fairytales were innocent stories of finding true love and living happily ever after, like the way Disney depicted them to be. I never thought about where these stories came from and the different themes and symbols that were relevant of that time. Some of the things I’ve learned about fairytales have not only shocked me, but has also made me reevaluate everything I know about fairytales. Something I never knew about fairytales is that they weren’t always for children. I’ve always associated them with a younger audience so thinking that these stories were written for adults enjoyment is really crazy to believe.…
