As we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, it is fitting that we remind ourselves of the reason why Jesus came to earth as our Lord and Savior. Christmas provides the perfect time to remind us of God’s love for humanity. Over the next five Sundays we will look at five essential elements in the Gospel story as we seek to discover the deep theological truths underlining the celebration of Christmas. (Creation, Fall, Promise, Rescue, Restoration)
When we think of Christmas from a worldly perspective we often think of Jesus being born as a baby in Bethlehem with the angels, shepherds, and wise men. But the story of Christmas goes all the way back before the Creation of the world. The Bible actually tells us in Ephesians

The different names for God reveal His character and the different ways in which He helps His people. There are many different names used for God throughout the Scripture. The first name found right here in Genesis 1:1 is the Hebrew name “Elohim” and comes from the root word El meaning might, strength and power. “Elohim” is used 2,599 times in the Bible. The name “Elohim” reveals the majesty and ruler over everything on the earth. It also sets our God above all other gods. God’s name reveals His power, His might and His strength. (Heavens do not include God’s dwelling place, but rather the sky and the atmosphere). The expression “the heavens and the earth” indicates the totality of the universe. God created an orderly, and very good universe. Verse two tells us the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. The power of God demonstrates His ability to bring order out of chaos by taking the formless and void and creating form and matter. We see cosmic order in the six days of creation, on day one (3-5), God created day and night, on day two (6-8) and three He created the boundaries for the waters and for the production of vegetation, plants and different trees. Day four (14-18) describes the instruments of light and how they are to function. They are to rule over the day and the night, and to be signs and seasons. Day five (20-23), order is seen in the creation of living creatures in the waters, and in the sky. On day six (24-31), order is seen in the creation of all animals on the earth and the crowning moment of the creation of man. Listen to some interesting facts about the order of our world.
♣ The universe is set up in an orderly manner. When was the last time one of our planets ran into another one? There are billions of stars and plants in the universe, yet they are all in orderly orbits. What are the odds?
