As the holidays draw near, the feelings of warmth and security an individual gets when surrounded by those closest to them are noticeably fainter than they have been in previous years. It seems that as time goes on, the familial aspect of the holidays, especially Thanksgiving, has been watered down in order to make it more marketable to consumers. Also, the day itself is now practically ignored in order to make room for more profitable traditions such as Black Friday. Capitalism, commercialism, and retail together have managed to not only completely change the meaning and story behind centuries old tradition, but are now beginning to eradicate it completely, because they have replaced the important values with their own. The more time and energy…

The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

Christmas was arriving much quicker than anticipated and everyone in my family was rushing in order to prepare the house for the annual festivities. Each individual was assigned a certain task to handle, and luckily for me I was designated to finish decorating the house. I was ecstatic, practically doing backflips across a corn field happy. I loved the idea of being creative and getting to watch all of my family’s faces when they saw all the hard work I did. I had brought out all the bins, which were overflowing with Christmas ornaments, decorations, and more Santa faces than I could count on both hands.…
