Christina's World By Wyeth: Painting Analysis

For this assignment I have chosen 2 artworks. The first artwork below is Christina’s World by Wyeth. In this painting the main subject is on the ground looking towards a barn and house that appear to be on a farmland in a field. The subject is in a lavender pink dress that is slightly faded. This is a major contrast to the farmland and buildings as these are various shades of grey-brown which is a complementary colour to the faded celeste blue.
Concepts (Home, Loss or Longing)
Concept 1 Home - In this painting by Wyeth the subject, or Christina is looking away from the audience towards a house. This house can be assumed to be hers as the painting is titled Christina’s world. When one refers to their world one is referring to what they hold dear and what they care about. This painting shows this in the subjects body language as they appear to be longing to go …show more content…
This is a state in the US where the primary industries include; Industrial machinery and equipment, Fabricated metal products, Chemicals and Allied Products, Printing and Publishing, and Agriculture (Byrne). The farm in the painting directly relates to the agricultural industries in this area. Wyeth was originally neighbors with Christina and Karl Kuerner. He started painting them in the 1930s and soon befriended them. “As a teenager, Wyeth would walk the hills of the Kuerner Farm” with them. This would have had an effect on how he presented them in his paintings and would have given him even more emotion to add to his paintings.
Liberty Leading the People
The second artwork for this assignment I chose was Liberty Leading the People by Delacroix painted in 1830. In this painting is a woman in torn rags with a flag in hand and a musket in the other leading an army of men. The general browness in this painting is contrast to the few strong colours such as the crimson red of the flag and the dark teal blues of the sky.
