Christina Perri Human Analyse

“human” by Christina Perri is a pop power ballad of somewhat repetitive but thoughtful lyrics, a wonderful piano melody, and a build-up towards the start of the chorus making anyone who listens want to sing along immediately. The authors of this song are Christina Perri and Martin Johnson, who produced the song as well. “human” was originally not meant to be on Christina’s album because of how personal it was, however, she decided to not only add the song to the album, but to make it a leading single. “human” is an extremely thought out and well written song describing parts of life everyone goes through at various times. Furthermore, during this analysis I will be using the literary elements of symbolism, tone, and conflict and the critical strategy of reader’s response to communicate my thoughts. The lyrics to “human” represent so much more than what is literally heard by numerous amounts of people. No one’s interpretation is the “wrong” interpretation, however, no one’s interpretation is the “right” interpretation either. I am under the impression that the conflict throughout this song is one of her and a boyfriend or possibly ex-boyfriend. The way the song says “But I’m only human, and I bleed when I fall down, I’m only human, and I crash and I break down, your words in my head, knives in my heart, you build me up and then I fall apart, but I’m only human…” (Perri 2013) tells of her only being able to take so much of the fighting they have. I can personally relate to this because of this one person I fight with numerous amounts of time in the day, however, in my opinion, my fighting with this person is just insignificant and small compared to the mental and possibly physical abuse Christina was going through in order to write this tremendously personal song about
