Unlike scientific theories, which usually states that the world came into existence randomly, the Bible gives the reader an illustration of how the world came to be. The Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1.1). Christians do not believe the world came into being by accident, but by a creator with a plan and purpose. Inerrancy is the word that is sometimes used by Christians to describe their belief system concerning the Bible; Millard J. Erickson, who wrote the book Introducing Christian Doctrine, best defines the doctrine of inerrancy by stating, “The inerrancy of scripture is the doctrine that the Bible is fully truthful in all of its teachings” (60).
