Christianity vs. Islam Throughout history there have been two main religions that have impacted the earth worldwide. Christianity and Islam have many similarities and differences including their origins, the way in which they grew and were adopted, and their core beliefs and values. Without these religions it is safe to say that the face of the earth and the interactions of the people within it would be drastically different than the one we know today. The Is-lamic founder, Muhammad, is believed to be the last prophet in the line of Abraham. The term “Muslim” comes from the literal translation of the word meaning submission to Allah (Strayer 415). At the core of the Islamic faith are the Five Pillars, which consist of full submission to Al-lah, making a Hajj to Mecca once in a lifetime, performing the daily ritual prayer five times daily, participating in Almsgiving, and Ramadan (Strayer 416). Occasionally, there is the belief in a sixth pillar known as “jihad”. Jihad gives a Muslim the right to use arms against another person if there is a struggle against non Muslim beliefs and practices (Strayer 416). Islam was widely adopted by the Arabs, taking over the Middle East sending Christianity to Europe. Jerusalem, at the core of three main religions, is often under at-tack over territorial disagreements. Within a three mile radius, there is the religious home to the Jewish, Muslims, and Christian communities, all under the belief that they are the rightful inhab-itants of the land (Christianity vs. Islam). The Muslims seek control because Jerusalem is home to the Dome of the Rock, the Mosque, and is the location in which Muhammad is believed to have ascended into Heaven (Christianity vs. Islam). It is important to the Jewish people because many historical events within their religion occurred there, and is home to the Wailing Wall. Also, the Holy Lands are important to the Jewish faith because it was the home to many of the prophets, who are responsible for the growth of their faith. Lastly, Jerusalem is important to Christians due to it being the location in which Jesus traveled to as a young boy, and being the home to the tem-ple in which God instructed his people to build in the Old Testament (Christianity vs. Islam). Being that all of these religions have such different beliefs of how daily life should be exercised, they are in constant state of arguing and conflict.
