Christianity In War

Decent Essays
Christianity and military involvement have a lot of opinions. In the Ten Commandments it says "Thou shall not kill." Christians being in war doesn't have a morally right answer. There is always another solution to a problem. This day in time, and in the past, fighting each other seems like the quickest thing to do. The undeniable truth of the question is, is it right? I believe that every Christian going into any kind of war physically or mentally should understand that they can lose many battles in a lifetime, but the war is already won. A just war should be something worth fighting for. If you are going to risk your life for your country, I think it is best to make sure that the war at stake is worth fighting

War is filled with injustices and terror, not a place you would expect a Catholic Chaplain to serve and fight in. The Catholic Church preaches that you should always “ Love your enemies” and not resort to violence and killing to achieve a goal. Throughout the centuries however, The Church has changed its views of fighting in a war. Through the later 19th to early 20th centuries the Church believed that a “Just war” could be fought. The New Catholic Encyclopedia defines a "just war" as “a shorthand way to the set of norms or criteria for assessing whether a government's recourse to force is morally justified” (POWERS).…

“Whether Soldiers, Too, Can Be Saved” is included in volume forty-six of Luther’s Works: The Christian in Society III, edited by Helmut T. Lehmann and Robert C. Schultz. Originally published by Martin Luther on January 5th, 1527, “Whether Solders, Too, can be Saved” was written in response to a very controversial topic that is still debated to this date. The issue at hand was whether Christians could bear arms and become professional soldiers while still obtaining a pure connection with God and Christian values. It is interesting that Christian Churches and Churches of Christ usually do not have a clear statement of doctrine, which maybe goes in line with the intention to not be a denomination. But in another hand is not something positive because members of congregations do not know the doctrinal position of the Movement on many topics of the Christian life. The doctrine of salvation is one of the most relevant Christian teachings, and Christians should be informed about the position that their churches hold about that. Because Christian Churches are not Calvinist, Arminianism is the typical view that it is held.…

Christian pacifism goes beyond opposing war. It represents more than being philosophically opposed to violence; it focuses on peacekeeping. Christian pacifism is spiritually founded in the scripture and the life of Jesus Christ, and his teachings of brotherly love and nonviolent coexistence. Jesus' words; "If someone slaps your cheek, offer him another, if someone demand your coat, offer him your shirt also", reflect the ideology behind Christian pacifism. Today, however, Christian pacifism goes beyond anti- violence and anti-war, it focuses on peacekeeping and peace bringing.…

But, they had faith even in the midst of persecutions even though they knew it was the end of their lives.
