In Psychology, Theology, and Spirituality in Christian Counseling by Mark McMinn, McMinn opens by establishing a base for a Christian worldview in the psychotherapy environment. McMinn describes how “this is a book for those wanting to investigate the frontier of intra-disciplinary integration” (McMinn, 2011, p.9). In examining this frontier, McMinn discusses fundamental views and religious interferences concerning integration as well as the difficulties encountered by Christian counselors. To determine how effective intra-disciplinary integration is, not only are biblical and theological foundations essential, but an individual’s spiritual discipline also plays a significant part (McMinn).…

Sermon Focus After reading what Long said about a sermon I found that it requires many different techniques in composing a proper sermon. A refined sermon is one that is critiqued and refined to fit the demands of the congregation, yet without the teacher (Holy Spirit) it will be on none effect. Consequently, a sermon is to be rectified by the preacher as they flow through the Holy Spirit to conclude the discourse with the necessary components for the congregation. In fact, Long stated, “A focus statement is a concise description of the central, controlling and unifying theme of the sermon. In short, this is what the whole sermon will be “about.”…

As I was reading this article I was angry and felt as if i would not agree with anything said, however, once I regarded the time period and allowed myself to be open to the opinions of others, I began to see some similarities. They were few, but similarities nonetheless. I agree with Macarthur in the aspect of some psychologists disregarding the ability to be assisted by prayer, reading the Bible and meditation with God. I believe that those things are important and vital to finding peace and well as strength through mental and emotional difficulties. Practicing “Christian” Psychologists should never advise against them or promote activity that go against Biblical teaching.…

The two chapters for this week’s readings explored two of the five major views on the integration of Christianity and psychology. The Levels-of-Explanation approach is presented by Thomas G. Plante, and the Integration approach is explained by Mark R. McMinn. It seems that the two authors have quite distinct approaches when it comes to reconciling the relationship between psychology and theology in clinical practice. Plante (2012) appears to see theology as a supportive supplement to psychology. In that sense, he appears to prioritize psychology over theology when it comes to his clinical work, evident in his frequent reference to the importance evidenced-based practice interventions.…

It is interesting what you wrote in your post when you said that “in order to help the individual there must be a confrontation of self and the incorporation of all three models must be facilitated.” This certainly leaves us room to think that in each of these models regarding addiction is that anyone who gives the treatment on the issue of addiction it will have within their reach the necessary information to be able in giving the necessary treatment, either in the clinical or counseling field. I believe the pharmaceutical developments as your mention, they are playing an important role in treating with medications those who have addictions. But, yet it is also true that even the Christian counseling field is growing in a fantastic way, due…

I agree with you 100 percent. Christian counselors should not impose their beliefs on their clients. Personally, I feel that clients who are active in their religion have fewer psychological problems than clients who have no religious background. However, as I said above, I do agree with you that Christian counselors should not impose their beliefs or their religious agenda on clients. Although my goal is to become a Christian counselor, I will only integrate religion, spirituality, and Christian faith into the client's treatment if that is the client's desire.…
