Let us ponder about how other religions worldviews relate to the Biblical worldview. There are three main areas or types of worldviews, Pantheists (Hinduism, Buddhism), Secularism (naturalism), and Theism (Christianity, Islam, Judaism). I will answer 5 basic questions on just one of the non-Christian worldviews and then compare it to the Biblical worldview. Part one will be about Buddhism and part two will compare Buddhism and the Biblical worldview. The questions to be answered are:

1. The Question of Origin. 2. The Question of Identity. 3. The Question of Meaning/Purpose. 4. The Question of Destiny.

Well, if we have had bad karma or not enough good karma, we will be reincarnated into another life form, but if we have done what we needed to, we will reach Nirvana and the reincarnation cycle stops. They will enter a passionless state where they will feel neither love nor hatred. Nirvana literally means “extinction”.[ix]

Part Two

Now that we have taken a look at Buddhism, Let’s compare and contrast these same five questions with the Biblical worldview and Buddhism. I think you will see a big difference, but they also show some very similar qualities that we can use to build our faith in God and better improve our Biblical worldview. How did life begin? According to scripture God created everything out of a void of nothingness (Gen 1). This is different from the Buddhist’s view because they believe that everything has always been around[x]. This is not true since “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen1:1). This clearly states a defined beginning and that God created it, including us. There was no matter or living things. There was nothing, but God. Next, we need to know identity. Who are we and what role do we play to animals. Well, we are God’s greatest creation. Genesis 1:26 states “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness”. Unlike earlier in Genesis where God said let life of all kinds spring forth and all the animals appeared, He decided to make us in His likeness. Then latter in Genesis 1:26
