When I got asked to help volunteer at my church’s children worship I thought I would only watch and help a little, but I was wrong. The chidren were very curious about God and how to be a good Christian. On my first day volunteering I got to lead the first grade class and would have to teach a lesson about temptations and how to withstand from bad temptations. After teaching, ages from four to seven came together singing about God’s word then a story was told about how to overcome everyday sinful temptations and the children were so intrigued and fascinated with the story that once it was over they asked questions and a young girl, Lily asked me a question. Lily asked me about ways I defy bad temptations and what I did to be a follower of

Firstly, for youngsters experiencing childhood in an organized, halfway house sort setting, it is absolutely critical that kids have the capacity to build up a steady, long haul connection to their parental figures. I have never been one to spring at opportunities that involved working with kids simply because I was disinterested. In the summer of 2015, my disinterest was turned into a passion when I met the children from Broadlawn. Broadlawn is a public housing community in my city and my church wanted to intercede and help their community. Our church decided that every Tuesday throughout the summer we would go out to Broadlawn to eat, talk, and play with the kids from the neighborhood. After some nagging from friends and family, I decided to tag along one Tuesday to help.…

At the start of my junior year, I realized that I needed to volunteer my time more than just the occasional “Community Project” that I did with my school’s Student Leadership Program. My mother gave me the idea of working at the Awana Club, a club for children from Pre-K up to 5th grade, which focuses on the Bible and creation of friendships. To a sixteen year old who thought kids were the spawns of Satan himself, Awana sounded like the worst possible place to volunteer. But, my mother is very persistent.…

Volunteering Require for College Admission Most college students have difficulty finding a job because of lack of experience in their majors or fields. In “Volunteering Required,” Loretta Van Lear argues that it is necessary for the students to be required their volunteer careers in the majors or fields before starting college programs associated with those fields. However, this statement overlooked several points which are rebuttable against it. The most important consideration is that all jobs do not have volunteer positions.…

Volunteer Hours Today Jenna and I volunteered at the Oxford-Lafayette Humane Society. We spent three hours walking the dogs and playing with the kittens. At first I was hesitant to spend three hours at the humane society, but the time went by faster than I had assumed. The first place I went in the shelter was the older dog room, and instantly I was taken aback by how many dogs there were. There was this one older dog snuggled up in the back of the kennel, it had the most depressing look on its face and all I wanted to do was hug it…

As a young teenage girl I was always focused on keeping up my good grades, having the perfect outfit for school, and helping out at church. Little did I realize that God and I did not have a close relationship. When I entered my first year of high school I decided to go deeper into ministry by helping out in the Worship team’s soundboard because of the lack of helpers at the church. As I entered deeper into ministry my understanding of Christ began to grow and I began to help out in both the Worship department and the Youth department. The more I began learning about Christ the more different I started to become.…

The video, Doing the Right Thing group Bible study by Charles Colson, Brit Hume, reminded me how morally and spiritually bankrupt our society has become. Greed and corruption run rampant among our business, schools, government, homes, and sadly, even our schools. Pride and greed tend to work together in the lives of many people, leading to divorce, neglect, addictions, theft, and many other immoral actions. Chuck Colson gave an excellent explanation of self-righteousness when he stated, “self-righteousness is the belief that you are so good that you can’t be compromised” (Colson, 2012).…

Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. Furthermore, I never had the courage to explore any other religion and get a sense of what other religions are about. However, now that I am taking Social Work 461 with Dr. Tillman, one of my assignments is to attend a religious service that is held by a group that is different from mine. As a result, I decided to attend a Buddhist temple to get an insight of what the Buddhist religion is about.…
