III. CATHOLIC THEOLOGY OF THE THEME
Education in the faith is found throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament, we find many examples of God teaching his people. For instance, in the book of Genesis God teaches Adam and Eve about creation and how they are going to take care of the earth and all what it contains. in the book of Exodus, we see that God teaches his people through the Decalogue and the laws that he gives his people in order to help them form their hearts and minds. In addition, through his prophets, God also taught his people throughout the years.
In the New Testament we find the teacher per excellence, Jesus of Nazareth. He was able to teach the people through parables and his own life. In addition, through his merciful words and actions, he taught about the faith to many people who, after his resurrection, were able to go to the whole world to proclaim the gospel. After Jesus and the apostles, Paul was also a teacher, who through his letters was able to teach Christians the Paschal mystery and the faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God.
In the history of the Church, we also find wonderful masters of the faith. The Fathers of the Church were able to address the situations that happened in the early Church. Figures, such as Augustine, Ambrose, and Cyril were keys to the evangelization in the first periods of the Church. Later, Thomas Aquinas became a great doctor of the Church for all the effort he put in teaching the faith. And nowadays, we have had popes who…
