Christians who suffer with suicidal thoughts or who have committed suicide are often struggling with something deep within themselves. One may feel overwhelmed, may have low self-esteem, may be dealing with problems from their past, or they could possibly be getting bullied in school. In Genesis 1:27 it says, “So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27, New Living Translation). So who is God and what characteristics does He display? God is wise, creative, and He is the light. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control which is all characteristics of God (Galatians 5:22-23, New Living Translation). If human beings were made in the image of God, then one also displays the same characteristics. Therefore, the same value, respect, and regard that one has for the attributes of God, are the same respect and regard that one should have for those same attributes in his own character and the character of those around him. Further, God does not look at one’s appearance when He is looking for someone to use, but he examines the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” God is not looking at whether someone is popular or who has the prettiest face. God is looking for a someone who is willing to be set apart from the world so that he can use that person to help build up his kingdom. Ultimately, God is seeking a willing individual whose character and heart he can use to challenge culture and eventually
