In, “Native American Religious Liberty: Five Hundred Years After Columbus,” by Walter R. Echo-Hawk, he writes about the religious oppression of native americans. According to Echo-Hawk, United States settlers used religion to justify the Indian Removal Act. He writes that, “a basic goal of federal Indian policy was to convert the “savage” Indians into Christian citizens…” (Echo-Hawk 277). This drove the white settlers to implement different laws that banned Native American religious practice.…

“Look at this place, all of you,” Schäffer said to the others, observing the architecture at the front part of the school, “And examine the wonder of this place. Splendid as it is, every one of us can safely agree that it is gleaming beacon to one of those days when the Children’s Paradise was just beginning to make its appearance in the shape as it is to this day. Someday, and I am not sure when, but when the time will come for us to see the Children’s Paradise soaring higher than it ever had, I would like to see ourselves at the forefront of this renaissance. The rebirth of American Catholic Education, its sudden ushering of the Greater American Catholic School System did not end with the beginning of the Republic; nor did it end, when the Great Leaps Westward marked the beginning of the attempts made to expand both Programs all the way to the West Coast. It continues even to this day, for there is much that…

Isaac Washington Isaac Washington is a junior African-American student at Jefferson Davis High School, a school known for its academic excellence. When Isaac was a freshman, he was among a group of African-American students that was transferred to Jefferson Davis High School due to a court order to desegregate the metropolitan schools. Because of the desegregation of Jefferson Davis High School, Isaac’s pre-dominantly black school was shut and the students were bused long distances and spread out among the district’s white schools. Consequently, Isaac’s classmates have little connection with the school’s past and present; as they cannot participate extra-curricular activities due to the distance from their homes and the need to ride the…

Reading Holmes and Augustine this unit, one comes to realize the importance of liberal arts education on a Christian’s spiritual formation and discipleship. The points the authors make point to God as a purpose driven, goal defining spirit who leads His children on a chosen path. Both authors make excellent points in both of their topics of discussion. Holmes’ focus remains constant that a liberal arts education is extremely beneficial to Christian discipleship, while Augustine suggests that the actions of one’s life are far more important in discipleship than higher education is. By reading the works of these authors, one can come to the conclusion that the goal of a Christian’s life is to glorify God to the best of his ability.…

Many Christians contribute the moral decline of our country to the fact that the Supreme Court mandated prayer in school was unconstitutional fifty years ago. Is it time to put God back in public schools? Adam Hamilton addresses this topic in his article “Put God Back in Public Schools?” first on his blog and then published in the Huffington Post, a liberal-oriented news source, in 2013. Hamilton is senior pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas, one of the fastest growing churches in the country.…

Benefits of Private School I have been attending private school for almost eleven years, and I believe that my experience at Forcey Christian School has been an important part of my life that has helped to shape the person I am today. My class sizes have always been fairly small, allowing me to develop personal relationships with both my teachers and my peers. Over the years, my teachers have always made sure that each student receives their full attention at all times. Because we have such small class sizes, teachers are able to see when one of their students are falling behind or are struggling with the material that is being taught in class, and they are also able to identify a student that is in need of a greater challenge or needs to…

Teachers have a vast amount of control over the young formative years of installing certain ideas and beliefs in children. That being we must have a deep concern over what is being portrayed to children involving religion. We must address the importance in not just understanding of different religions, but the concept of tolerating them, not because you are forced, but because you understand the role religion plays in each person’s life. Religion connects to vast amounts of situations and is deeply rooted in our history. We must not confuse our own ideas, with the illusion that one religion is better than the other.…

A Christian liberal arts education more completely prepares its graduates for life than does other education tactics, especially over a general liberal arts study. These universities seek to prepare a student for all aspects of life—wherever and whatever they may be—as a loving, Christ follower. This methodology differs greatly from those used by other institutions for higher learning. A liberal arts degree in the non Christian world focuses on laying a foundational education that will prepare the student for whatever future job they pursue, even if it is outside of his or her chosen major. This allows students as well informed people to succeed in all of the nuances of their employment so that they are not only trained to do one specific job,…

I went to a private Christian School throughout my school experience. The school that I went to from Kindergarden through 8th grade was actually very well versed in inclusion. Although private schools often get looked at as a school created specifically to exclude, I am very proud of my school for not falling into this category specifically when talking about student with special needs. My school established a special program to find students that had special needs and give them everything that they needed in school, this program translated into their parter school which was the high school that I went to. Now before I go any farther, there will be topics where the schools that I attended will not score very well, but in this category I am…

This past Thursday I visited the Smith Academy for Excellence and was surprised at how the school worked to help the boys learn best. We learned that most of the boys come from a poverty stricken neighborhood with many family problems. Along with this, a majority of the students were African American but there were also a few Caucasians and Latinos. The age/grade range of the boys is from second grade up until twelfth. They are extremely proud that this is the first year they will have a graduating class, including a young man who had previously graduated in the winter.…
